The
Convention Center Marriott Marquis,
due to open at 901 Massachusetts Ave. in Spring 2014 will have a decidedly retro element even though it hasn't even opened yet. In an
interview with the Washingtonian today, Bill Marriott revealed that he personally was overseeing the resurrection of
Hot Shoppes, a cafeteria-style restaurant which focused on old favorites like hamburgers (in particular, the signature triple-decker "Mighty Mo," which many cite as the inspiration for the Big Mac) and root beers. The last Hot Shoppes closed in 1999, but Marriott is excited for its return: "you can't mess around with the Mighty Mo."
