Earthquake aftermath

Today was a crazy day around D.C., as the earthquake was a first for most of us.   Add to that the traffic nightmare, the cell phone outages, and the natural inclination of Washingtonians to think terrorist attack when the ground rumbles, and you had quite a turn of events.

The White House complex was sealed off, even streets around the White House open to pedestrians were closed off:

The Capitol was similarly closed, and streets normally opened to traffic were closed:

The Capitol buildings are now back open to staff.  Luke Russert reports on twitter that paint chips are covering the floor in the Capitol rotunda.

Right now, Metro is still running at 15 miles per hour, so expect extreme delays if you are getting on Metro.

If you see any damage around Penn Quarter, please let us know!
