Metro takes away benches from Gallery Place Metro station

DCist reports that Metro has taken away many of the benches on the Red Line platform at Gallery Place.

The goal is to more evenly spread customers along the platform, so that trains and load and depart faster.  Do you think it will help?

They have removed four benches and a trash can from the far end of the platform for trains heading toward Shady Grove.

They are also placing personnel on the platform after Verizon Center events and at other crowd times to encourage the crowd to spread out.
