It sounds like something grinding underneath.
This is particularly troubling after Metro's report on elevators and escalators, which detailed a litany of problems with brakes and lubricant (or the lack of).
Not to mention the recent brake failure at L'Enfant Plaza that injured 6 people.
And the injury in our neighborhood at Gallery Place that may have been brake failure or may have been clumsiness.
