Cinco de Mayo in Penn Quarter

Thursday is Cinco de Mayo and many Penn Quarter restaurants will be having specials and giveaways to celebrate the occasion.

I guess Texas is pretty close to Mexico, and that's good enough for Hill Country, who will be celebrating with drink specials and special menu items.  For $5, Hill Country is offering Mexican Boiler Makers (Tecate and a shot of Tanteo Jalapeno Tequila) and Jalepeno Margaritas.  They will also be extending their normal happy hour specials all day (and night) long.  Their menu specials will include Guajillo Rubbed Lamb Barbacoa, Mexican style corn on the cob, and Mexican bread pudding.

Around the corner, Austin Grill is having an Austin Slopper Eating Contest (you could win a $500 gift card), t-shirt giveaways, live music, games, and unannounced drink specials.

Rosa Mexicano will have live music and a special lunch menu and a special dinner menu.

If you stroll up to California Tortilla, maybe to squeeze in a little celebration at lunch, and say the secret password ("Cinco de Mayo"), you will get a coupon for a free taco on your next visit.

Let us know if you hear of any other fun Cinco de Mayo events!
