New Plans for the Verizon Center

Mike DeBonis at the Washington Post has a great article on the reworking of the signs at the Verizon Center.  Per the article, it was the folks at Monumental Sports and Entertainment (the group that owns the Verizon Center) that requested next week's hearing be postponed, so that they could take community concerns into new renderings.  DeBonis' interview with Randall Boe, Monumental's executive vice president, confirms the following:
"The new plans call for fewer signs than initially contemplated, Boe said -- two digital animated signs would replace larger vinyl signs now hanging on the 7th Street NW face of the arena; another sign would wrap around the arena's fourth floor at the corner of 7th and F streets.
These plans seem to alleviate David von Storch's concerns that VIDA Fitness members would be affected.

Boe said that renderings would be made available shortly, but in the mean time you can take a look at our rendering of how we interpret Boe's comments:

This wraparound banner will be made of mesh to allow light
to go into the Monumental Sports executive offices
(VIDA windows will be left unaffected)

Vinyl signs like this GI Joe ad will be replaced with a digitally animated sign
