CityCenter construction begins TODAY

Shovels hit the ground today for the long-awaited CityCenter complex heading to the old convention center parking lot.  Construction is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

This complex will open 9th Street and G streets to traffic, and add much-needed development to our neighborhood on a spot that has for too long been a very, very large parking lot.

According to the Washington Examiner, the first phase of the project alone will add up to1.3 million square feet.  It will include two office buildings, two apartment buildings (with 460 total unites), two condo buildings (with 216 total units) and 185,000 square feet of retail space.
When it is all said and done, the development will have 400 hotel rooms, 216 condo units, 458 apartments, 514,700 square feet of office space, and 294,600 square feet of retail.
