Last we reported on Daikaya, 6th Street's forthcoming ramen shop, official word was that it was due to open in February 2012. It goes without saying that Daikaya has missed the mark there -- but these things happen.
We were excited to read just this week that The Washingtonian named Daikaya as the number three restaurant to look forward to in 2012, and moreover, that it would be opening "this summer," so we took a stroll by the address this morning to see what kind of progress had been made.
Not only does the building not look ready for an opening in a few months - but - there is no building.
UPDATE: A PQ Insider reader reports that the owners are still looking forward to Daikaya's opening, but have run into problems with permitting. No word on potential resolution of those issues, but we'll keep an eye on it!
FEBRUARY 7 UPDATE HERE.
i happened to run into the "Japanese delegation" of owners yesterday...visiting/touring the site..they said that the hold up was permitting (obviously) but they are still excited about getting open...then i recommended toki underground to them... :-)
